More than 70% of our planet comprises of water, yet there are millions of people who have no access to clean water for drinking purpose. This limitation towards pure drinking water isn’t only limited to under-developed or developing countries but the developed countries like Australia, New Zealand, and many European countries are facing the same problem. However, the only remedy to this chaos is by changing human habits. Adopting hygienic behavior, quitting the conventional measure for storing and supplying of water; shifting to the modern measure and developing an adequate equipment leading to favorable results. Australia is currently working with governmental, non-governmental, the private sector and several other organizations to improve the access of clean water, providing better sanitation facilities and improving hygienic behavior throughout the country.
Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH)
This society funds more than thirteen civil society organizations that run their programs in the Asia, Africa, and the Pacific regions. Besides, providing specific grants this organization also supports multiple research, innovation, and fund management techniques. The very first attempt of the agency resulted in providing basic sanitation facilities to about eight hundred thousand people. The WASH has a preliminary objective of enhancing basic health facilities and quality of life among poor people.
The water and sanitation initiative (WSI) global program were established with the motto to discourse the deliberate gaps in WASH sector program. Caritas Australia another organization developed with the code that access to clean water and proper sanitation facility is right for every human. This organization is also working hand in hand with WASH to perform tasks like:
- Installing water pumps in communities to have access to clean water.
- Drilling boreholes, covering toilets and pot racks and installing taps at multiple locations for hygienic hand wash.
- Generating awareness among locals and supporting the training of food production and agriculture.
Improper access to WASH is linked with the spread of diseases like cholera, polio, hepatitis and certain other fatal diseases. Therefore, these organizations are lending their hands for ensuring the access of WASH services in a home, access to clean water and much-improved sanitation measures.
In order to provide basic human facilities, financial investment is provided to WASH by several regions. The organization has a priority in serving Pacific and Fragile states. Many governmental organizations are also supporting either by granting funds or by providing equipment that is required.
